Bolt v Blake - Olympics 100m sprint betting specials

Usain Bolt can make Olympic history this summer by justifying odds-on favouritism and becoming the first man in history to win consecutive Olympic 100m finals.

Bolt lost his world title to fellow countryman Yohan Blake after false starting in Daegu last year, then was beaten by the same man in the Jamaican trials for these games. However, the world record holder remains the odds-on favourite for the gold medal this weekend and Stan James are offering odds of 4/5 that Bolt takes his place in history with victory in London on Sunday.

Coral have also opened a range of betting specials for the race with odds of 5/2 being offered on the world record being broken at the games. The record currently stands at 9.58 seconds but Bolt spoke earlier this year of running a time close to 9.4 seconds.

“You can’t be sure when or where you can run a time like 9.4,” the world’s fastest man told The Sun.

“But the major competitions are when I take it really seriously and shine through – that’s business time.”

Such is Jamaica’s dominance in the sprinting events that Coral also offer odds of just 10/3 that the Caribbean nation fill the podium for the 100metres, with Asafa Powell hoping to join Bolt and Blake in the medals.

There’s also betting available on whether or not all finalists will run a time that is officially quicker than 10 seconds. In Beijing four years ago all but two of the sprinters were quicker than 10 seconds, with those slower only marginally missing the cut off with times of 10.01 and 10.03.

Odds of 11/4 on all of this year’s finalists breaking the 10-second barrier look appealing, while it is 1/4 if you disagree.
