Reigning Premiers St George Illawarra are in danger of not making the top four after suffering back-to-back defeats and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they take on Wests Tigers on Friday.
The Dragons, who have lost to Canberra Raiders and South Sydney Rabbitohs in recent weeks, are currently in fifth place and will need to work extra hard if they are to retain their NRL title in 2011.
Their opponents, the Tigers, are in eighth place and their spot in the play-offs is still not secure and they need to pick up as many wins of possible in an attempt to avoid being caught by the chasing pack.
The other match on Friday night sees Canterbury Bulldogs look to improve their chances of making the play-offs when they take on third-placed North Queensland Cowboys.
There are three matches on Saturday with rock bottom Gold Coast Titans looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 50-20 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle Knights when they host Cronulla Sharks, while league leaders Melbourne Storm hope to remain at the top when they host Penrith Panthers and Brisbane Broncos take on New Zealand Warriors.
Newcastle Knights are in seventh place on the ladder and will be looking to remain there when they take on Canberra Raiders, who still have an outside chance of making the eight, while second-placed Manly Sea Eagles will be out to put pressure on the leaders when they entertain struggling Sydney Roosters.
Round 22 comes to an end on Monday when South Sydney Rabbitohs play host to the Parramatta Eels – the hosts could still make the eight while it looks virtually impossible for Parra to get there.
