Melbourne Storm remain top of the pile and it is very difficult to find anyone capable of knocking them off their perch - although the Tigers will never have a better chance.

The Storm lead the way in first place and have collected 24 points from 12 matches with 11 wins and one bye and this week they will be without some real key performers.

Melbourne come into this game on the back of a hard fought 22-12 win against the New Zealand Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium with Gareth Widdop, Jaiman Lowe, Will Chambers and Cameron Smith all crossing for tries.

The Tigers, however, will be no easy feat as they have finally found some form that saw them labelled as one of the pre-season favourites.

Tim Sheens’ men are currently in fourth place with 16 points and will be looking to move away from a cluster of teams with their eighth win of the campaign.

The Tigers come into this clash full of confidence thanks to a 40-0 drubbing of Canberra Raiders with six different players getting on the score sheet with Matt Utai, Curtis Sironen and Robbie Farah amongst them.

State of Origin Game 2 takes place on Wednesday, June 13 so both teams will not be at full strength, although the Storm will be hit the hardest.

Billy Slater, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk will all miss out to be in camp with Queensland, meaning Gareth Widdop starts at full-back with Maurice Blair moving to number six.

Rory Kostjasyn replaces Cronk at scrum-half with his place at lock being handed to Todd Lowrie.

The Tigers will be without hooker Robbie Farah after being called-up once more to the New South Wales squad with Tom Humble wearing the nine jersey. Blake Ayshford is back in contention as part of an extended five-man bench.

Probably for the first time this season, the Storm are not favourites to win. They can be backed at $2.75 with Luxbet, while the Tigers are a 1.46 shot.
