It's the first time that the NHL's championship series will be played in Vancouver since the 1994 Cup final when the New York Rangers, behind Mark Messier, defeated the Canucks in seven games. The big story heading into this year's final series, besides the collision of two outstanding goaltenders in Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas, is the fact that both franchises involved in this year's finals, Boston and Vancouver, are franchises in the midst of terrible Stanley Cup droughts.Vancouver have never won the Cup since joining the NHL more than four decades ago while Boston have not won the Cup since the conclusion of the 1972 season. One of those streaks has to end with the conclusion of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals and one of them, painfully, has to continue for who knows how long.Vancouver, winner's of the President's Trophy, have the home ice advantage in the series as they had the better winning percentage from the regular season. However it was Boston that won the only regular season match-up between the two clubs, a game in February from Vancouver where Tim Thomas only allowed one goal in a 3-1 Bruins win.Game one takes place tonight with a starting time of 8pm ET (5pm PT) from Vancouver with television coverage available with CBC and NBC.
