Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens Final Playoff Game Preview

- 12 May 2010

2009 Stanley Cup winners could face elimination tonight

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens will meet tonight from Pittsburgh in game 7 of their Eastern Conference semifinal.  Penguins fans will be hoping for a repeat of last year's game 7 conference semifinal which saw Sidney Crosby and crew demolish the Washington Capitals by jumping out to a 5-0 lead and then hanging on for victory.

Montreal enter the game as the underdogs on the road at +210 while the Penguins are coming in at -250 (Players Only).

The Canadiens are the team with the value in this match-up as they do not appear to be the big underdogs that the odds make them out to be - they are in game 7 because they are evenly matched.  Montreal have been effective in limiting the offensive production of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in this series and should that continue it is hard to figure out where Pittsburgh's goals will come from in this deciding game.

Marc-Andre Fleury has not been a good goaltender so far in the post-season as his save percentage is at .899, bad enough to be near the bottom for all goalies.

In contrast, Jaroslav Halak has a save percentage of .932 and that is just .001 off of the best pace set by Craig Anderson whose team has been eliminated already.

In short, this game 7 features two teams: one whose key players are struggling and one whose key players are performing.

Sidney Crosby could definitely step up and steal the show because that is the type of player he is.  However Montreal are providing good value at the odds that have been provided and our recommendation is to sprinkle Montreal to pull off another stunning series upset.
