Boston Bruins knocked out of play-offs by Washington Capitals

There will be no repeat Stanley Cup champion winner this year as the Boston Bruins were knocked out of the play-offs by the Washington Capitals.

The defending champions lost 2-1 at home in overtime as the seventh seeded Capitals exceeded all expectations to move on to the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

Washington are 9.50 to go on and win the Stanley Cup, with the LA Kings 7.50 and the New York Rangers 5.75.
Joel Ward scored on the rebound 2:57 into the extra period to snag the winner in a series in which every game was decided by a single goal.

Matt Hendricks had given Washington the lead midway through the first scoring on a redirect of a John Carlson shot only for the Bruins to tie up proceedings in the second.

Tyler Seguin showed tremendous determination in out muscling two Capitals to get to a loose puck in front of the net to light the lamp for the second time in the series.

However it was not to be for Boston as Washington's third string netminder Braden Holtby outplayed Tim Thomas in the Bruins goal to help the Capitals move on.

Who Washington plays next will be determined on Thursday evening when the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers each host Game 7's in the final two games of the opening round.

The top seeded Rangers will play the Capitals in the semi-finals should they defeat the Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden, however should New York stumble, then the Caps will face the Philadelphia Flyers or New Jersey

Devils depending on the outcome down in Florida when the Panthers host the sixth seeded Devils.
