New York Giants at New Orleans Saints tips - Giants' slump to continue

The New York Giants will look to end a three-game losing run when they visit the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, but the visitors are expected to go home empty-handed.

New York Head Coach Tom Coughlin has no tuck with history but once again his New York team are stuttering in the second half of the season.

Having gone 6-2 through the first eight weeks of the season the second octet of games has begun 0-2. They did exactly the same last year, losing four out of their last eight, while in 2009 they went one better - or should that be worse? - and lost five of their last eight having started the season 5-0. Whatever Coughlin says, the Giants do not finish the season strongly and this trait has seen them miss the last two post-seasons.

Tonight they face a winning Saints side (7-3) that is rested, having not played since the 26-23 overtime win at Atlanta on November 13. The Saints are 4-0 at home, where they'll be for the majority of their games the rest of the season as they try to maintain a one-game NFC South lead over the Falcons.

This contest centres around both quarterbacks, a pair of former Super Bowl MVPs who will be looking to have good games against two almost equally average pass defences - New Orleans' 20th overall and New York 21st.

Drew Brees for New Orleans is the one that enters the arena with more confidence and his record against the Giants is a strong one - he's 3-0 in his career against NY, with seven touchdowns, no interceptions and a 65.5 completion percentage, winning those games by an average of 22.0 points.

Eli Manning returns to the city of his birth, but the Superdome has not been a happy hunting ground for him and on his last visit he completed less than 50 per cent of his passes. Protecting Manning has proved a problem for the Giants' revamped offensive line and he has been sacked 19 times already this season. The Saints are sure to bring pressure to unsettle him again.

But it's not just the offensive line that has been stuttering. They can't move the ball effectively on the ground, averaging only 83.2 yards per game and in their last game versus the Eagles only registered 29 yards rushing. That lack of balance really hurts them .

The Saints have no such problems. Brees has plenty of targets through the air in Marques Colson and Jimmy Graham - both of whom are worth a look at in touchdown scorer markets - and an effective one-two punch on the ground via Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles.

New Orleans are rested, balanced and 4-0 at home and those should be all the reasons you need to support the Saints as the Giants' seasonal collapse continues for another season.

Match Odds: New York Giants 4.0, New Orleans 1.32
