Green Bay Packers at New York Giants Tips - Packers to go 12-0

The New York Giants are the next team to try to end the Green Bay Packers' unbeaten record, but the most likely outcome from this match is Titletown franchise going 12-0.

The Giants have spoiled an unbeaten season before, but they were in much better form then and it's hard to envisage it happening again. As much as New York head coach Tom Coughlin tries to sweep the Giants weakness under the carpet in the second half of the season the problem is there for all to see. Their defence was picked apart by the Saints and Drew Brees on Monday night for 49 points and 577 yards and they now face a Packers side that is arguably even more dynamic and dangerous led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers who already has 33 touchdown passes this year and just four interceptions.

Green Bay are undefeated in 17 straight games and that winning streak began with a 45-17 rout of the Giants at Lambeau Field in the penultimate week of the regular season last year - a defeat that eliminated the Giants from the playoffs and set the Packers on the road to Superbowl glory. The Giants are now coming off a drubbing and a short week against a team that has had plenty of time to prepare with the Packers not having played since Thanksgiving Day.

Most teams realise that they have to try and put pressure on Rodgers even if that means leaving lots of man coverage situations because, if you give him time, he'll pick you apart with an arm that has the precision of a surgeon's knife. Basically, defences are in a Catch-22 situation and the Giants' hopes of slowing Rodgers down are not helped by likely absence through injury of two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora. The Packers have some injury problems of their own but such is the depth and talent on their roster those absences are not expected to hamper them against a team that is on the slide.

Both sides like to air the ball out and Green Bay have a wonderful array of receivers with Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson established as the go-to guys, the erratic yet talented James Jones as a deep threat and in Jermichael Finley they have a tight-end who possesses fantastic hands and athletic ability.

If there has been a weakness in the Packers game this year it has come in their pass defence and Giants quarterback Eli Manning who has thrown for 3,358 yards this year may be able to exploit that facet of the game. However, Green Bay may give up yards but they are adept at picking off opposing quarterbacks and it wouldn't surprise me to see them outsmart Manning on a couple of occasions here, as the defensive unit already have a league high 22 interceptions this year.

New York have a history of ruining unbeaten seasons, ending Denver's 13-0 start in 1998 although the Broncos went on to win a second straight Super Bowl. More notably, Coughlin's Giants ended New England's bid for a 19-0 season with a 17-14 win in Super Bowl XLII. Both those wins came when they were in better form than now and the second of these back-to-back match-ups against the last two Superbowl champions could have a very painful outcome for the Big Blue.

Match Odds: Green Bay 1.38, New York Giants 3.4
