LSU have overcome Alabama once already during the regular season, and they will have to get past their Southeastern Conference rival once again in order to win this year's national championship.

The Tigers finished their season atop both the BCS rankings and the AP Top 25, putting them in the BCS Championship Game at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. LSU were the only undefeated team in college football, going 13-0.

Alabama lost just once during the regular season – to LSU on November 5th. That record was good enough to put the Crimson Tide at No. 2 in both the BCS rankings and the AP Top 25, which has them in the national title game as well.

When the two teams met in the regular-season, the was all about defence, as the teams combined for just five field goals in the 9-6 LSU road win.

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson completed just 6 of 10 pass attempts for 67 yards for the Tigers in the November match, with backup Jarrett Lee going 3 of 7 for 24 yards with a pair of interceptions.

Alabama QB A.J. McCarron didn't fare much better either, completing 16 of 28 pass attempts for 199 yards with one interception. Trent Richardson was the lone bright spot for the Tide offense, rushing for 89 yards on 23 carries and also catching five passes for 80 yards.

The Crimson Tide bounced back from that loss with three straight wins over Mississippi State, Georgia Southern, and Auburn to close out their season, finishing at 11-1 straight up and 8-4 against the spread over their dozen games.

The Tigers went 10-3 against the spread on the season, and they had been listed as underdogs of -5.5 in their marquee matchup with the Crimson Tide back in November.

Overall LSU have won seven of their past 10 games against Alabama, going 4-4-2 against the spread.
