As the name suggests, this is a contest between fourteen of the best teams that Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have to offer. Due to the strength of this southern hemisphere trio, this is arguably the strongest domestic competition in the world and certainly throws up some excellent betting opportunities.

In the past few years, Crusaders have been the bookmaker pre-season favourites for the Super 14, reaching five consecutive finals between 2002 and 2006 and winning on three occasions. However, they could only reach the semi-final stages in 2007, leaving Bulls to narrowly edge out Sharks 20-19 in the final. These are both South African teams so it may be worth keeping an eye on this as a potential trend.

Indeed, something to bear in mind when betting on the final is that it’s generally a close-run thing. The difference between winner and runner-up has been ten points or less in the past five seasons, so its well worth checking out markets like Winning Margin where you can bet on teams to win by 1-5 points, 6-10 points and so on.

As with the Guinness Premiership, the top four teams at the end of the regular season then compete against each other in a play-off system to determine the overall winner. Therefore, ensure you don’t get confused between the Regular Season Winner and Grand Final Winner markets.
