As the odds for the 2007/8 season indicate, the SPL is pretty much a two-horse race every season between Celtic and Rangers. The former have held sway in the past couple of seasons under manager Gordon Strachan although the law of averages (plus the fact Walter Smith is now manager of Rangers) means the value probably lies with the Gers for the forthcoming campaign.

Most bookmakers will offer a "Without the Big 2" market which can be infinitely more interesting if we have a runaway leader like Celtic last season. With the likes of Hearts, Hibernian, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock all fairly evenly-matched, there's some decent each-way value knocking around.

Many SPL matches are televised throughout the season, leading to plenty of In-Play opportunities. This is especially the case when Old Firm teams are involved as it often pays to back them later in the game when the scores are still level or if they've fallen behind to an early goal but are threatening to get back in the game.

Celtic hero Henrik Larsson dominated the SPL Top Scorer charts between 2001 and 2004, although Rangers' Kris Boyd is threatening a similar reign after topping the chart in the past two seasons. As you would expect, this is also a market dominated by the Old Firm so oppose them at your peril!
