They may have nearly beaten Bulgaria on Saturday, yet Montenegro showed enough defensive frailties during their 2-2 draw to inspire confidence among the Republic of Ireland. The visitors are 13/10 (bet365) to make it a maximum points haul from their opening two matches, although some firms go as short as 10/11 (totesport), after being sufficiently impressed by Giovanni Trapattoni's men following their 2-1 win against Georgia.
It should be noted that this match was played at a neutral venue, taking the gloss of the victory a little, although there's a great deal of quality throughout the Republic team. This is especially notable in attack, with Kevin Doyle opening the scoring at the weekend. The Reading striker is a 13/2 (Paddy Power) chance to do this again, although perhaps Robbie Keane might be a better punt at 6/1 (Betfred).
Montenegro are 5/2 (Ladbrokes) to pull off a surprise win and it's a 9/4 chance (totesport) that the match is drawn, My preference would be a 2-1 triumph in favour of the visitors, which is a 9/1 chance with Centrebet. Both teams scored two goals on Saturday and it's a 5/4 chance (Paddy Power) that there are three goals or more on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, there's an interesting game in store at Windsor Park, where the Northern Irish host Czech Republic. On first glance, the 5/6 (William Hill) about the visitors might look like a cracking price, although it's worth bearing in mind that the home side have beaten England, Sweden and Spain at the same venue in the past few seasons. They are 7/2 (Sporting Bet) to bounce back from their defeat in Slovakia with a win, while David Healy is 8/1 (Boylesports) to open the scoring in front of a passionate crowd.
