Despite a number of extraordinary achievements by British women in 2011, there was not a single woman on this year’s shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year. As a result William Hill have created an alternative award to celebrate female achievement in sport over 2011. The inaugural William Hill Sportswoman Of The Year Award will be decided on the 21st of December, the winner of which will gain a VIP trip to the William Hill King George on boxing day as well as £1000 Charity bet on the big race. “Despite not one woman making the list for the BBCSPOTY, we feel that there has been a lot to celebrate in what has been a fantastic year for woman’s sport. It won’t be the same as the main award but hopefully a VIP trip to Kempton and the chance to win thousands for their favourite charity will be some consolation for the winner,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
