With just five hours remaining until the 4.15pm off-time for the Grand National – several horses have garnered public support in the countdown to the big race.
William Hill report that Silver by Nature (12/1), The Midnight Club (11/1), and Ballybriggs (14/1) are amongst the most-punted with Lucinda Russell’s grey the only mover in the race cut to 12-1 from 15-1.
Previous winners’ of the National are also proving popular with repeat allegiance being pledged to Tony McCoy’s mount Don’t Push It (9-1), and 2008 winner Comply or Die (40-1).
Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’At present, it is the Scottish vote that is winning with Silver by Nature flying the St Andrews Cross extremely high. Don’t Push It still looks a banker to start favourite with McCoy aboard, but there are plenty proving popular in the build-up.’’
In Aintree Hurdle at 2.50pm, Binocular has proved all the rage with punters, and has been cut to 2-1 from 5-2 – with Hills fielding a £20k telephone bet at odds of 9-4.
