Tiger Woods praises Rory McIlroy for USPGA win

Tiger Woods was one of the first to pay tribute to Northern Irish superstar Rory McIlroy after watching him storm to victory in the USPGA Championship.

McIlroy turned the year's final Major into a procession at Kiawah Island as he returned a final round 66 to romp to an eight-shot victory.

Woods was actually ahead of the 23-year-old by two strokes at the halfway stage, but, while McIlroy found his best form in South Carolina, the former world number one faltered.

McIlroy's performance took him past Woods in the rankings and back to the number one spot and the American admitted he had no complaints at the end.

Woods said: "He's very good. He's got all the talent in the world to do what he's doing. And this is the way that Rory can play. When he gets it going, it's pretty impressive to watch."

Woods eventually finished 11 shots behind McIlroy in the final standings and he was left to reflect on a season that promised so much in the majors without delivering. He is 9.00 with Bet365 to win next year's British Open, while McIlroy is 12.00 and current champion Ernie Els can be backed at 34.00 with Bet365

The 14-time Grand Slam winner was in contention and ideally placed to add to his tally in the final three majors of 2012, only to be found wanting in the last round.

On his latest disappointment, Woods said: "I was right there, but I came out with probably the wrong attitude yesterday.

"And I was too relaxed and tried to enjoy it, that's not how I play. I play intense and full systems go. That cost me.

"I putted really well today and had the speed good. Unfortunately, I just didn't give myself enough good looks."
