Zurich Classic of New Orleans preview, odds and tips

Bubba Masters faces a tough task in defending his Zurich Classic of New Orleans title this week.

US Masters winner Watson (14/1 Tournament Outright @ Boylesports) will take on an elite field of golfers that includes Luke Donald, Steve Stricker (25/1), Graeme McDowell, Keegan Bradley and Justin Rose.

TPC Louisiana is a real plotters course, putting a huge premium on ball-striking, so look to golfers that keep the ball in play and hit greens-in-regulation (Justin Rose 22/1 and John Senden 50/1). The bermuda greens around TPC Louisiana are average-sized in comparison to other courses on the PGA Tour so good scrambling is important (Brian Gay 66/1 and Bryce Molder 80/1).

Also bear in mind that the greens don’t have as much undulation as other TPC courses, so players with great putts-per-green-in-regulation stats are set to find themselves right in contention(Peter Hanson 40/1 and D.A. Points 100/1). Heavy rainfall poured down on the course last weekend, so expect a receptive lay-out and low scores during the opening two rounds.

There are some attractive betting odds available on the Zurich Classic of New Orleans outright betting market including the favourite Luke Donald, who is available at an unbeatable price of 13/1. Boylesports also offer stand-out prices on Keegan Bradley (20/1), Justin Rose (22/1), Graeme McDowell (33/1), Ernie Els (40/1), Charley Hoffman (66/1) and Geoff Ogilvy (66/1), so there’s plenty of value floating around for golf punters to get stuck into this week.

There are no fewer than 12 major champions in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans field this year, including the most recently crowned major winner Watson, who defeated Louis Oosthuizen in a sudden death play-off at last month’s Masters. Watson tees-up at TPC Louisiana this week as the defending champion, following his play-off victory over Webb Simpson twelve months ago and he comes into the event in red-hot form having finished second at the recent WGC Cadillac Championship, tied-fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and of course victory at the US Masters.

Zurich Classic of New Orleans Outright Betting Tips:

Spencer Levin 80/1

Levin is accuracy personified and the fact that he didn’t shoot massive numbers at the Texas Open last week is testament that his golf swing is in good shape. Levin has great ball striking capability and a great putting stroke that will see him in contention after 36 holes.

D.A. Points 100/1

D.A. Points is a bermuda grass specialist who offers great value to punters this week.He keeps the ball in play, makes tonnes of birdies and has the golf game to win on this course.

Peter Hanson 40/1

Hanson missed the cut in his only start in this event last season but he has another crack at TPC Louisiana thanks to a sponsor’s invite. The Swede has accepted temporary membership on the PGA Tour for the rest of the season, which has prompted him to move his family to the US and that decision is seemingly paying off following his impressive third-place finish at the Masters. Expect another polished performance from this accurate hitting birdie machine.
