Firm expecting record turnover at St. Andrews this week
William Hill are predicting that there will be a record betting interest in the Open Championship, which takes place this week at St. Andrews.
Tiger Woods is the 5/1 favourite, but there have been a number of well supported home players, with Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy the most backed of all the contenders at 18/1.
Lee Westwood is a 20/1 shot to finally break his major duck and Justin Rose (22/1) and Ian Poulter (35/1) will also be hoping to be in with a chance of lifting the famous Claret Jug.
Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro:
"There are a number of reasons why we think the Open will see record turnover, first the World Cup is over and people will be looking for new avenues to bet on , second Tiger Wood is back and finall they are playing at the home of Golf. So far Rory Mcllroy is the best backed and we have high hopes of a British victory which is a 6/4 shot,"
