Debutant Fredrik Jacobson has surged into the lead at the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, China.

The 37-year-old shot a fine six-under-par round on Friday to improve his total to 11-under, a single stroke ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and Adam Scott at the halfway stage at Sheshan International Golf Club. Jacobson (13/2 SkyBet) made a blistering start with four birdies over his first seven holes to make the turn in 32, and he closed out his round with further birdies at the par-four seventh and ninth to complete his second round in 66.

The Swede said afterwards: “If you're hitting good shots, you get rewarded. There's a few holes where you can take it on or lay it up. Today, I really didn't take much risk. I just made the birdie putts.”

Oosthuizen (9/1 bet365) was the biggest move of the day in Shanghai, shooting a sensational nine-under-par round to reach 10-under through 36 holes. The 29-year-old South African reeled off nine birdies without a bogey to end the day alongside Scott (4/1 Betfred), who shot nine birdies and two bogeys in a seven-under-par 65.

Keegan Bradley (9/1 Ladbrokes) is one shot further back after a two-under-par round, with Bo Van Pelt (16/1 Paddy Power) and Paul Casey (14/1 StanJames) now eight-under following rounds of 69 and 66 respectively. Lee Westwood (11/1 SkyBet) and Martin Kaymer (16/1 Blue Square) are among a group of players on seven-under, with the likes of Graeme McDowell (50/1 SkyBet) and Justin Rose (40/1 SkyBet) now six-under. US Open champion Rory McIlroy (16/1 SkyBet) improved to five-under with a second-round 69.
