The first major of the year is about to start - Ross backs Dustin Johnson

The Masters is golf's first major of the year and is always played at Augusta; this year between 8th and 11th April. However, it's not the same Augusta as it used to be when the likes of Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam and Bernhard Langer were winning. 

The course has now been lengthened to such an extent that the shorter hitters on Tour, like Luke Donald and Jim Furyk, would have to have a stellar week on the greens, while all the long hitters putt poorly, to have any chance of winning - unlikely.

This has played into the hands of Tiger Woods (four times a winner) and Phil Mickelson (twice), and it's a short price that one of these golfing 'greats' will be donning another green jacket in 2010. 

However, if there's one player capable of causing a shock it is Dustin Johnson, who gives the ball an almighty whack off the tee (300 yards plus). 

He's more than just a bomber, though. You don't win three times on Tour from around 65 starts - a decent ratio when you consider that 150+ players tee it up each week and all are capable of winning - without having an all-round game. 

Deadly accurate with his irons and a demon putter, the twenty-something Californian has the game to prosper around Augusta and won't be afraid of winning. He will be a decent price too!
