The Open Championship is one of golf’s four major tournaments and the 2011 Open takes place from 14-17 July. The 2011 Open Championship will be played at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, the fourteenth occasion that this course has been selected for this tournament.

The Open Championship 2011 betting market suggests that this is a wide open tournament, with reigning champion Louis Oosthuizen defending his 2010 title against 155 other players. The South African can be backed at 80/1 to win back-to-back Opens, with the favourite currently Lee Westwood.

Westwood has held the number one spot during 2011 and will be hoping to land his first major title in Sandwich, with current odds of 12/1 about the Englishman breaking his duck. He was recently beaten in a play-off at the BMW tournament by Luke Donald who is also among the favourites.

Bettingpro will be providing Open Championship 2011 tips throughout the tournament and there are a wide range of betting opportunities that are available for this four-day competition.

There is the chance to bet before the Open Championship on markets such as outright winner, Top Englishman, Top American, Top Amateur and Hole in One betting. You can also bet on which player will record the best score out of the several three-balls that go out during the first two rounds.

The Open Championship 2011 odds will then change dramatically when the tournament starts, with many bookmakers offering In-Play betting on this exciting golf event which is sure to have several different leaders as the action unfolds.

In-Play betting is growing in popularity with customers all the time due to the excitement provided and golf tournaments such as The Open Championship allow you plenty of time to consider the betting market considering that each player is out on the course for several hours each day.

Royal St George’s Golf Club is a par 70 course which has a total yardage of 7,211 yards. The longest hole on the course is the 7th, a par 5 hole which measures 564 yards which will make things very hard to reach the green in two. The shortest hole on the course is the 16th, a par 3 hole which is just 163 yards although pin positions are likely to be difficult on each day.

Many bookmakers will offer generous promotions on The Open Championship 2011 which includes extra places for people wanting to back golf players each-way. That means you will get a return if your selection finishes in the top six or even top seven.
