The Irish bookmaker had erected a 270 foot Hollywood-style sign opposite Celtic Manor, although the court have ruled against them

While Paddy Power succeeded in their guerrilla marketing at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival, it appears that attempts to hoist a massive sign opposite the Ryder Cup course have failed this week.

Cardiff County Court have ordered the Irish bookmaker to remove the massive ‘PADDY POWER’ lettering that currently stands on a hill facing Celtic Manor, something which will please Celtic Manor owner Sir Terry Matthews.

He described the likeable bookmaker as “scum” in a BBC interview, with the gentleman clearly looking to protect the interests of the official sponsor.

Paddy Power told Bettingpro: "We’re very disappointed. The fun police have won – the big bully boys have come along. They completely over-reacted and threatened to bulldoze the sign down, which they had no legal right to do."
