The 2012 PGA Tour continues this week with the HP Byron Nelson Championship, widely regarded as one of the most exciting tournaments of the year because of a string of play-off finishes.

Since 1970, along with the Houston Open, the HP Byron Nelson Championship has had the most play-offs on the PGA Tour. Last year’s play-off between Keegan Bradley and Ryan Palmer (40/1) was the 20th in the tournament’s history.

Will the likes of Phil Mickelson (10/1 Tournament Outright), Matt Kuchar (11/1), Adam Scott (14/1), Louis Oosthuizen (22/1) and Keegan Bradley (16/1) provide more drama in Dallas this time around, or will a rank outsider like Josh Teater (200/1), Chris Couch (200/1) or JJ Henry (150/1) spring a surprise victory?

TPC Four Seasons has seen dramatic changes over the years, the most recent coming in 2008 when champions tour player D.A. Weibring and company renovated every tee box, green and bunker. The new layout is a 7,166 yard par 72 which features narrow, tree-lined fairways, large, well-placed bunkers, fast, undulating greens and creeks and ponds that comes into play on several holes.

It is a real plotters course and solid ball striking is at a premium. Take the defending champion Keegan Bradley for instance, who last year finished seventh in driving distance, tenth for driving accuracy and sixth for greens-in-regulation. Keeping the ball in play and hitting lots of greens is the order of the day so you can bank on Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner (20/1), Johnson Wagner (45/1) and Nathan Green (250/1) having a solid tournament – the latter hugely priced and no stranger to success in Texas.

HP Byron Nelson Championship Outright Betting Tips:

John Huh – 55/1

John Huh has a beautifully balanced golf swing that stays in-tact under pressure. He finished runner-up on the first-timer leaderboard at last week’s Players Championship and who can forget his previous visit to Texas just a few of weeks ago when he performed an absolute miracle to almost win the Valero Texas Open.

Y.E. Yang – 66/1

Yang was one of only six players who had a bogey-free round at last week’s Players Championship, albeit he missed the cut after carding a horrendous opening round 80. He has plenty of experience around TPC Four Seasons and that second round 68 last week might just fire him up after a disappointing start to his season.

Harrison Frazer – 80/1

Frazer acted as a player consultant during the renovation period in 2008, so he has an advantage over the rest of the field who are still getting to grips with the new layout around TPC Four Seasons. He started the season with aplomb, carding back-to-back top 5 finishes but since then his form has been terrible. Why punt him then? Well, he’s a Dallas native who still lives there and he produced for eye-catching golf at last weekend’s Players Championship.
