The 5 best bets at The Open Championship this weekend

LYTHAM ST ANNES, ENGLAND - JULY 20: Adam Scott of Australia acknowledges the crowd after carding a three under par round 67 on the eighteenth hole during the second round of the 141st Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club on July 20, 2012 in Lytham St Annes, England. (Photo by Har

So, your outright picks on The Open Championship haven't even made the cut but you still want an interest in the tournament over the weekend, what do you do? Well, we're here to help with five bets that will get you through the final two rounds at Royal Lytham & St Annes and hopefully help recoup any losses from Thursday and Friday.

1. Adam Scott to win The Open Championship @3/1 Paddy Power

Adam Scott is currently sitting second, one shot behind Open leader Brandt Snedeker but he is very much the man to side with for the final two rounds. The Australian may never have won a major title but he's vastly experience with eight victories on the PGA Tour, including the WGC-Bridgestone last year. He also has a caddy, Steve Williams, who has been there and done it all many times before with Tiger Woods. Williams will help Scott to plot his way round the golf course on Saturday and Sunday and he won't do anything stupid. Snedeker has been playing too well and you have to assume that he can't sustain his bogey free form for another two days while a three shot cushion over Tiger should be enough to see Scott lifting the Claret Jug on Sunday night.

2. Luke Donald to finish top GB & Ireland player @3/1  Betfair

Luuuuuuuuuuuke was pretty impressive on Friday and he deserved to shoot a lot lower than 68 with a couple of bogeys on the back nine undoing some great scoring on the front nine, at a time when players weren't making many birdies. He's too far behind to win The Open but he's an ultra consistent player and is more than capable of making a move on Saturday. The world number one is currently two shots behind Graeme McDowell and Paul Lawrie in the Top GB & Ireland market but Lawrie is likely to fall away and G-Mac will probably throw in a horror few holes somewhere along the line. Donald won't do that and it would be a bit of a surprise if he now doesn't finish in the top five, which will be enough to see him crowned king of the home contingent.

3. Matt Kuchar to finish in top five @11/2 Betfair

Matt Kuchar was playing with Adam Scott for the opening two rounds at Royal Lytham & St Annes and he did pretty well in the shadow of the Australian, quietly carding a 69 and a 67 while playing with a massive grin on his face. He looks composed and confident and his Players Championship win in May has clearly lifted a massive weight from his shoulders. He's world number four (the top ranked American) for a reason and he will be consistent over the next two days. He tied fifth at the moment and we don't expect him to slip up over the weekend. He may be a bit too far behind to catch Scott and Snedeker but Kuch can keep his cool and finish in the top five.

4. Thomas Bjorn to be top Danish player @2/1 Betfair

There are only two Danes left in the field at The Open and if you really want to you can back Thorbjorn Olesen to be the top Danish player at 4/7 with Sky Bet and then back Thomas Bjorn in the same market at 2/1 on Betfair to guarantee a small profit. However, that's not very much fun and instead we're going to back the older of the two to use his experience on Saturday and Sunday to catch his young protege. Bjorn was fourth in The Open last year and has a couple of second place finishes in the tournament to his name. Olesen has played one major (last year's Open) and missed the cut. That more than negates the four shot difference between the two at the halfway stage.

5. James Morrison to be the Top Debutant @3/1 Betfair

This is a strange price. James Morrison has a two shot lead over all of his rivals in the Top Debutant market and is five shots better off than Keegan Bradley, who is next in the betting at 5/1. Why then is the Englishman 3/1? Morrison has a European Tour win to his name (Madeira Open) and has also finished second at the Spanish Open. He had just one bogey on Thursday and then dropped shots at just three holes on Friday. This shows that he is playing some solid, consistent golf, which should stand him in good stead for the final two days. He won't win The Open Championship but he probably doesn't even have to finish under par to be the Top Debutant, none of his rivals in the market are in the red so far.
