Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano holds a three shot lead at the Singapore Open, which has been reduced to 54 holes due to tropical rainstorms.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano completed his second round, which had been delayed due to bad weather, on Saturday and hit an impressive 10 under par 61 to move to 15 under after 36 holes. The Spaniard's round would have been a course record at the Tanjong Course but the organisers were forced to adopt 'lift, clean and place' rules due to the adverse weather conditions.

Nonetheless, the 31-year-old was delighted with his round, which gave him a three shot lead in the clubhouse after two rounds.

"I am thrilled... You don't shoot 10-under very often," Fernandez-Castano said.

"You don't really know how the suspensions are going to affect you but I was lucky because I hadn't teed off before yesterday's thunderstorm.

"I took my time. I took it easy and started well with three birdies. It was great and then I had a good start again this morning.

"To play well you need to hole putts and that is what I did."

The first few groupings were able to begin their third rounds on Saturday but a severe weather warning at 11:50am (03:50 GMT) meant that all play had to be suspended. The torrential rain then made any play impossible.

"We will not have any further play today due to the prevalent weather conditions," European Tour tournament director Mike Stewart said.

"We've had a lot of rain but the biggest danger has been the lightning activity in the area that has made it too
dangerous to be on the golf course," he added.

"We've taken the decision to have no further play today.

"We will bring the players back at 7.30 am (on Sunday) for a restart to the third round, which will then be the final round. So the event has been effectively reduced to 54 holes."

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano is now the 8/11 favourite at Ladbrokes to win the 2011 Singapore Open, with joint second placed Edoardo Molinari and James Morrison available to back at 4/1 and 10/1 respectively.
