The European Tour’s Asian swing has agreed with Dubuisson, who has finished fourth and 11th in tournaments on the continent, and the Frenchman’s good run continued on Thursday. He overcame blustery conditions and some difficult greens to shoot a four-under-par 68, which featured eight birdies, one double-bogey and two bogeys, and that was enough to give him the lead.

Dubuisson told EuropeanTour.com: “I’m very pleased with playing four under today.

“My putting was really, really good and I think it's the only way to achieve good scoring in these conditions. “

It was a good day for the British players as four of them ended the day tied for second place on two-under. Englishmen Mark Foster and Paul Casey, and Welshman Jamie Donaldson all shot four birdies and two bogeys on day one, putting them in a five-way tie alongside Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, who overcame a double-bogey at the fifth, and South Korea’s Ji-ho Jung.

Adam Scott is a shot further back on one-under after he made four birdies, a double-bogey and a bogey on day one. The Australian’s 71 meant he ended the day tied for seven place with the likes of George Coetzee, Paul McGinlay, Ross Fisher and Oliver Fisher.

Veteran Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez made two birdies and two bogeys as he ended the day on par, but it was a Thursday to forget for Northern Irishman Darren Clarke as he racked up six bogeys and just one birdie to end the day five-over and in danger of missing the halfway cut.
