2011 US Masters – Lee Westwood great value at 16.5 to win at Augusta

Westwood is already mentally preparing for the first major of the year and should be in contention come the final round

After the worst year of his life, Tiger is down to number five in the world, and the man with 14 Majors to his name is as short as [1.57 to win No Majors in 2011, and as long as 16.0 to collect his old annual haul of seven or more PGA Tour wins. But if anybody thought he was just going to slink away with his tail between his legs they quite clearly thought wrong. When he comes home from golf there's going to be more golf, and at some point you can't help but expect that everything will click back into place.

Meanwhile, Lee Westwood's reign as world number one lasted a matter of weeks. And he's been getting some very unnecessary stick from legendary commentator Johnny Miller about it. "He got to number one and played like he didn't want to stay there," said NBC's top man about a record of five starts in 2011 with 15th his highest finish.

I wouldn't worry too much about that in the long term. One of Westwood's big achievements last year was to take a leaf from the old Tiger's book and manage his game to arrive in the best shape for the biggest tournaments. He's currently 16.5 for the Masters and that might just offer some value.

Miller, like many American commentators, tends to sneer at British golfers but Westwood isn't the only Englishman near the top. Luke Donald and Paul Casey have both collected titles already this year, while Justin Rose, Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher are knocking on the door.

In fact I like the look of another opportunity in Betfair's Golf Specials market that currently gives between 2.06 and 2.98 for one of them to end the 15-year wait for an Englishman to win a Major (Nick Faldo was the last at Augusta in 1996). They might need to go to the course or the driving range for their practice, rather than pop into the custom built back garden, but you can bet they are all working just as hard as Woods.
