Australia v Ireland International Rules betting – Ireland favourites to throw first punch

Australia face Ireland in the International Rules 1st Test on Friday, with the Irish favourites to claim victory in this match

Despite missing a number of players due to club commitments Ireland have been installed as 8/11 favourites with Paddy Power to win the first international rules test this Friday in Melbourne.

Throughout the history of the series the touring side have been traditionally stronger and with the Aussies without a number of their marquee names are 11/10 to record a home win with the draw available at 20/1.

With last years impressive goalkeeper Dustin Fletcher sitting out the series, the men from down under go into the series without a recognised goalkeeper and with the odds of them keeping a clean sheet in the first test an unlikely 9/2 this could be a problem area for the AFL’s selection

The series has in the past been marred by violent scenes and despite last years games passing off largely without incident, Paddy Power are offering odds on which team will land the first punch. Unsurprisingly the prickly Australians are odds on to land the first punch at 8/11 with the Irish available at Evs.

Paddy Power told Bettingpro: “The international rules is always a tough one to call but I’m hoping that our footballers can follow the example of our rugby players and give the Aussies a good pasting!”
