Sky Bet have paid out early on Vettel retaining his F1 crown after the German won again in Singapore

Online bookmaker Sky Bet have decided to pay out on Sebastien Vettel in the 2011 Drivers’ Championship market after the German driver secured his ninth win of the season in Singapore.

The 24-year-old saw off a late charge from Jenson Button to pick up yet another maximum this season; the victory places him 124 points ahead of Button with only 125 points to play for, meaning Vettel needs a mere point from the last five races in order to win his second World Drivers’ Championship.

Given Vettel has finished off the podium just once all season – a fourth-placed finish in his native Germany – Sky Bet have decided to pay out to those who’ve backed Vettel to capture the title. Vettel had started the season at 3/1, but rapidly shortened after a year of dominance.

Vettel has to wait a fortnight to secure his crown, but will be confident as he prepares for the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. Vettel has enjoyed back-to-back victories on the track in the past two years, and Sky Bet make him 4/6 to confirm his title in style with a hat-trick of wins in Japan. Jenson Button, the only driver who is able, mathematically, to stop him, is 6/1.

Sky Bet make Vettel 5/4 to successfully defend his title next season in the 2012 Drivers’ Championship; British pair Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are 7/2 and 7/1 respectively, while two-time winner Fernando Alonso is 4/1.

For Alonso, Hamilton and Button, the final five races offer a small chance of redemption and an opportunity to prepare for next season. Sky Bet offer 2/1 that Jenson Button, who has enjoyed a podium finish in his last four races, wins the Drivers’ Championship without Vettel, while Alonso (5/2) and Hamilton (9/2) sandwich 11/4 shot Mark Webber in the market.

Sky Bet F1 trader Chris Spicer told Bettingpro: “Another flawless race from the German has all-but-secured his 2011 Drivers’ Championship. Vettel will take some stopping next season, despite a strong recovery from McLaren in the second half of the year.

“Button is in the best form of his life at present and I expect the 7/1 on him winning the 2012 title to be very popular.”
