Vettel claimed victory at the Italian Grand Prix, his eighth such success of the 2011 Formula One season, and now leads Fernando Alonso by 112-points in the standings. Moving on to Singapore and the Red Bull star can win his second successive drivers’ championship if he finishes on the podium and other variables go in his favour. However, the young German has never won in Singapore after finishing second in the last two years and seventh in his season with Toro Rosso.

Vettel’s Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber has had to sit in the shadows at Red Bull this season and the Italian Grand Prix was no different. As Vettel crossed the finishing line for another victory, Webber was watching in the pits after retiring early in the race. The Australian lost his front wing after hitting Felipe Massa’s car and then spun off the track as he hastily attempted to return to the pits. Webber dropped points in the race for second and ultimately resides in fourth place level on points with Jenson Button.

Red Bull have all but won the constructors’ championship for a second season in succession. They currently hold a 126-point lead over second place McLaren. Red Bull’s dominance is evident as they have claimed every pole position and won eight from 13 races.

McLaren endured another mixed performance in Italy. Jenson Button finished second despite slipping to eighth at one point in the race, while Lewis Hamilton was left frustrated by Michael Schumacher before finishing fourth.

Hamilton has however won at Singapore in the past and will be confident of securing the 25-points this weekend. The McLaren driver is fifth in the drivers’ championship on 158-points, while Button is third with 167.

Last time out Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso could only manage a third-place finish despite leading the race after a fantastic start. However, with the Ferrari car not coping well with warring tyres, the Spaniard was overtaken by Button and had to settle for third place. With this said, Alonso will fancy his chances in Singapore after winning the inaugural Grand Prix in 2008 – despite being disqualified after the race – and in 2010.
