Hamilton back in title hunt after Hungary victory

Lewis Hamilton is now 9/2 third favourite to win the F1 Drivers’ Championship after a dominant victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton took pole and finished ahead of Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean at the Hungaroring.

Championship rivals Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso came in fourth and fifth, while Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button came sixth. Marc Webber could only manage eighth after needing to make an extra stop for tyres.

Hamilton had been expected to do well at the Hungaroring having claimed wins here in 2007 and 2009. His win on Sunday meant that he now joins Artyon Senna on three wins at this track, with only Michael Schumacher on more, with four wins, the last of which in 2004.

It means Hamilton has an outside chance of catching Alonso (11/10 Ladbrokes) in the drivers’ championship.

The Spaniard is 40 points clear of second-placed Webber (14/1) and 47 ahead of Hamilton in fourth, but crucially the next race sees the drivers travel to Belgium, another track in which Hamilton has seen success before, having won there in 2010.

The 2008 champion is the early 5/2 favourite to win on September 2nd after the mid-season four-week break, with Vettel – who won at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps last season – 4/1 second favourite.

Despite being third in the current standings, the German reigning champion is also second favourite to defend his title at 11/4.
