Lewis Hamilton has been handed a three-place grid penalty at the Indian Grand Prix, and William Hill have responded by pushing his odds out from 2/1 to 6/1 to win the race.

Hamilton, who ignored a yellow flag during practice, is 9/4 second favourite to be the fastest qualifier. William Hill think that Hamilton’s most likely position will be either second or third with each priced at 7/2.

Sebastian Vettel is even money favourite to win the race and is 10/11 to qualify fastest. The Ferrari cars performed well in the opening day’s practice but Hills think that this may be a bit of a false dawn and offer 15/2 and 50/1 for Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa respectively to win the race.

Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com: “Hamilton was the clear second favourite to grab a win in India, but his chances may well be as good as over following his three place penalty. It may well be over for Lewis.”

The track in India has been designed to optimise overtaking and Hills are betting on how many times the leader is overtaken during the race (excluding pitstops). Hills offer 5/1 that the lead changes no times, 6/1 it changes once and 5/1 twice. 16/1 is offered for the lead to changes hands ten or more times.

Following pictures of a dog marauding on the track, Hills are offering 100/1 that any part of Third Practice, Qualifying or the race itself are delayed due to the presence of an animal on the circuit.
