Fernando Alonso is aiming for a second consecutive Grand Prix victory as the paddock arrives at the Nurburgring on July 24th for the German Grand Prix.
After a two-week break Formula One returns to action on July 24th for the German grand prix at the Nurburgring.
Last time at Silverstone Spaniard Fernando Alonso produced his, and his team’s, best performance of the season to claim victory for Ferrari.
With issues off the track creating waves around the paddock due to the proposed exhaust regulations, it was the two-time world champion who stole the headlines.
The Spaniard scored both his and the Scuderia's first win of the season - one that also confirmed their resurgence after a poor start to 2011.
Alonso will now be hoping to add a third victory in the German Grand Prix following victories in 2005 and 2010 – albeit on the Hockenheimring.
Despite not winning the race at Silverstone, Sebastian Vettel finished second and yet again stretched his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
The German who has never won his home Grand Prix, will be favourite to become the first German to win on home track since Michael Schumacher in 2006.
After nine races the defending world champion holds an impressive 80-point lead over team-mate and rival Mark Webber.
After defying team orders in Silverstone to ease off from Vettel, Webber faces an uncertain future at Red Bull.
The winner here in 2009 will have a lot to prove in Germany and will be determined to seal his first Grand Prix victory of the season.
McLaren endured a mixed day at Silverstone. Firstly Jenson Button had to retire after he left the pits without a wheel nut attached, and subsequently failed to score any Championship points.
Then after a fantastic drive and a certain podium finish, Lewis Hamilton was told to ease off the gas and save fuel, which allowed Mark Webber to pass him to claim third-place on lap 46.
The McLaren star was his usual aggressive self at Silverstone and finished fourth having started from 10th.
A winner here in 2009, Hamilton will be demanding in the two-weeks off that his team bring updates to rival both the Red Bull’s and Ferrari’s.
As it stands, Vettel enjoys a 109-point lead over the McLaren pairing in the Drivers' standings, while Red Bull are also an impressive 109-points clear of McLaren in the Constructors' table.
Finally, Michael Schumacher will be dreaming of winning his first Grand Prix since returning last year. The seven-time world champion has won the German Grand Prix on four occasions.
