Adrian Sutil is confident Force India (100/1 to win the Constructors Championship at Betfred) can have a big impact on Formula One this season following the unveiling of their new car.
Force India endured another tough season in Formula One in 2009, finishing ninth out of ten teams in the constructors standings despite former driver Giancarlo Fishichella converting a first pole into a podium finish for the team.
Vijay Mallya’s team have adapted their car in accordance with the new rule changes while sticking with Mercedes (3/1 to win the constructors title) to provide the engine and McLaren (9/4) provide the gearbox.
The team opted out of the first winter testing session which saw Ferrari look good in the build up to the start of the new season which begins on March 14 in Bahrain.
However, Force India will take part in the next round of testing next week in Spain along with the rest of the 2010 grid, with the exception of news teams Lotus F1, USF1 and Campos Meta 1.
Sutil (125/1 to win the drivers championship) and his team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi (250/1) have both stated that the feel confident this year’s car will be able to compete with the big teams products.
“This is a really important season and we are very optimistic about going well,” said Sutil.
“It’s important to be consistent from the first race. I’d like to be in the midfield and be competitive from (the opening race in) Bahrain.
“We have had a good winter and a very good development programme so expectations are high.”
