The 2011 Formula 1 season heads to Abu Dhabi this weekend for the penultimate race of the season.

The Yas Marina circuit is one of a few on the F1 calendar to run in an anti-clockwise direction, and it is also unique, as it is the only track with an underground pit lane.

The circuit has come under pressure in the past and was slammed by drivers for being too easy, which they believed would result in boring races.

Last time out Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in signature style, after leading from lap one. The world champion, who claimed his 13th pole position of the season on Saturday, made it 11 victories in 2011 after once again appearing completely in control. Vettel has won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in both 2009 and 2010 and he is the massive favourite to make it a hat-trick of wins in 2011.

Jenson Button will look to cement his runner-up place in the drivers’ championship with a strong finish in Abu Dhabi. He bolstered his position last time in India by finishing on the podium in second place and now holds a 13-point lead over Fernando Alonso.

Team-mate Lewis Hamilton endured another disappointing Grand Prix in India, but battled back to finish seventh after he collided with Felipe Massa for the third time in four races. Hamilton is now 38-points behind Button and is effectively out of the race to finish second.

Fernando Alonso took the final podium position ahead of Red Bull driver Mark Webber. Alonso is now six-points ahead of Webber in the drivers’ championship with just two races remaining.
