Juventus tell Robin Van Persie to make up his mind

Juventus have issued Robin van Persie with an August 7 deadline if the Arsenal forward is to make the switch from London to Turin.

Van Persie is understood to want to leave the Emirates as he enters the final year of his contract, but news that he has travelled with the Arsenal squad to Germany for a pre-season training camp suggests that he could still be in limbo.

With manager Arsene Wenger keen to keep the player, despite the knowledge that he could lose him for free next summer, the two parties could be approaching an impasse that may see the Dutchman stay at the Emirates. Betfair’s Van Persie To Stay? Market currently has the Yes selection trading at odds of 2.6 (8/5).

Juventus have already had one offer rejected by Arsenal but are understood to have come back with an improved bid, and are willing to pay the player £190,000 per week. Yet a move to the Old Lady is not thought to be at the top of Van Persie’s wish list with Carl Thomas, assistant to the player’s agent Kees Vos, posting on Twitter: “Not the best news coming from Italy regarding Juve manager. It's hardly the advert to come and join us.”

Juve manager Antonio Conte is facing a lengthy ban in regards to match-fixing allegations.

As a result Sky Bet now make Manchester United the 11/8 favourite to sign the player by the close of this summer’s transfer window, with Manchester City third favourites, behind Juventus, at odds of 5/2.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Malaga midfielder Santi Cazorla on a four-year deal for £16million, the player due to undergo a medical later today. Wenger also hopes to follow that with the loan signing of Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that the arrival of big name players will help to convince Van Persie of the club’s intent and that he should stay in north London, for this season at least.

Paddy Power offer 12/1 that Arsenal win the Premier League this season and go just 1/5 that it is another trophyless season at Ashburton Grove.
