City spending spree to continue with Daniel Agger and Scott Sinclair

Manchester City made their first major signing of the summer by bringing in Jack Rodwell from Everton, and could be set to add both Daniel Agger and Scott Sinclair to their ranks.

City loosened the purse strings for the first time this summer to sign Rodwell in a £15million deal, but that isn’t expected to be the last of the arrivals at the Etihad Stadium with Agger and Sinclair on the radar for similar fees.

“I liked Jack last year and for this reason we bought him,” said City manager Roberto Mancini.

“He is a good player who needs to improve to play at this level. But he is young. I think he’s a good player for our future. We are still looking for other players. We are interested in all good players.”

Sky Bet make Manchester City the 4/7 favourites in their market for where Agger will be playing his football this coming season, while The Citizens are just 1/4 to sign Swansea winger Sinclair.

Mancini had publically voiced his discontent with sporting director Brian Marwood, who deals with the club’s transfer dealings, but the Italian was hopeful that the situation could be rectified.

“Every manager is unhappy when, one week before the start of the season, we haven’t bought any players,” added Mancini. “But I hope we can do something about that this week.”

City begin the defence of their title at home to Southampton this coming Sunday and Bet365 offer odds of just 1/5 that they kick off with three points. Last season began with a 4-0 win over newly promoted Swansea; another 4-0 demolition job is priced at 10/1.
