Firm reward punters who backed Beckham at 7/2 to miss tournament

Following the news that David Beckham looks set to miss this summer’s World Cup, due to an Achilles injury sustained at the weekend, WilliamHill have decided to pay out on all bets placed on the AC Milan midfielder NOT being in the final England 23 for the tournament in South Africa.

Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe told Bettingpro:

"It is difficult to see Beckham returning to the England squad after an injury of this nature at his age.

"We are paying out to those who bet that he would not make it into the World Cup finals squad - he was 1/6 to be selected by Capello, and 7/2 not to."

With rumours that the injury could spell the end of not only Beckham’s World Cup hopes, but also his whole career, Hills are offering odds of 3/1 that the former England captain announces his retirement from football before the end of the tournament in South Africa.
