Wigan Athletic v Aston Villa betting tips - Villa strikers back with a bang?

Villa could be a good bet to beat Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has not enjoyed a great start to time in charge of Villa Park, b ut that is largely due to his squad being decimated by injuries, which has led to the Frenchman having to cobble together starting teams from youth and reserve players.

That crisis does, however, appear to be abating with Emile Heskey (9/1, Blue Square), John Carew (8/1, Coral) and Gabriel Agbonlahor (13/2, Bet365) all fit and ready for Saturday’s match with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The return of that trio, plus the fact that Ashley Young (8/1, Bet365) is also available, should mean that Villa carry far more threat in attack than in recent weeks and that could spell trouble for the Latics. Villa are 7/4 at Victor Chandler to beat Wigan on Saturday and that could well be a price worth taking

Roberto Martinez’s side haven’t won in their last five matches and are only being kept off the bottom of the league only by the woeful West Ham and Wolves. In their last match, against Everton, Wigan escaped with one of the most fortunate 0-0 draws of the season and if they continue to play as they did at Goodison Park, they are sure to be on the end of some heavy defeats over the festive period.

It is 9/5 at BetFred that Wigan beat Villa on Saturday, or 23/10 with the same firm that they hold the visitors to a draw, but without any real goal threat, the home side could find themselves hanging on for much of the game and at least one of Villa’s returning forwards should be able to punish them.

Recommendation

Win Market – Aston Villa (7/4, Victor Chandler)
