Valencia CF v Stoke City tips - Potters to break down in Mestalla

Valencia are in a commanding position in their Europa League last 32 tie with Stoke City and the Spaniards can finish the job in the Mestalla on Thursday evening.

There were plenty of pre-match jokes about whether or not Valencia could 'do it on a wet and windy evening in Stoke' and Unai Emery's side rose to the challenge, beating the Potters 1-0 to put themselves in a commanding position in their Europa League last 32 tie with the English side.

They now host Stoke City in the second leg in the Mestalla on Thursday evening and they will be expected to qualify for the last 16 with a comfortable win over Tony Pulis's side. It is a best price of 4/9 at Betfred that Los Che win in front of their own fans and that will form the cornerstone of many midweek accumulators.

A victory would certainly go a long way to helping Valencia forget about their 5-1 hammering at the hands of Barcelona in the Nou Camp on Sunday and for this reason Emery is expected to play as strong a team as possible on Thursday evening. Midfielder Ever Banega will be missing, having broken his leg in a freak accident in a petrol station, but there will be no rest for star players such as Robeto Soldado, who is 17/4 at Bet Victor to open the scoring against the Potters.

Stoke are 8/1 with the same firm to spring a surprise and become only the second team in 18 European matches to win in the Mestalla but one senses that the English side missed their chance when missing a few good opportunities in the opening minutes of the first leg. Jonathan Walters (12/1, bet365) almost capitalised on confusion in the early stages of last week's match in the Britannia but Valencia goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has claimed that his side will be more prepared for the second leg.

"We know the way they play is totally different from how we play but you have to adjust to everything and not just the Spanish way when you're at a club like Valencia playing in Europe," he said.

"At first it was difficult, they get the ball right into the goalmouth, and they had a long throw they nearly scored from but it got easier."

Without their passionate support, and lacking experience in Europe, Stoke City look vulnerable on Thursday and Valencia's passing game could undo Tony Pulis's side on the big pitch in the Mestalla. It is 5/4 at Sky Bet that the hosts win by two or more and that looks like the best bet on the game.

Recommendation

Match Handicap (-1 Goal) - Valencia (5/4, Sky Bet)
