Tottenham make £12million bid for Yann M'Vila

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for the inevitable departure of Luka Modric to Real Madrid by making a £12million bid for France international midfielder Yann M’Vila.

The 22-year-old tough-tackling Rennes player has been the subject of a “concrete offer from England” for M’Vila, according to his club’s chairman Frédéric de Saint-Sernin.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with M’Vila this summer although their interest is believed to have cooled, and French newspaper L’Equipe reports that the bid has come from Tottenham.

After Rennes lost 2-0 to Lyon on the opening weekend of the French Ligue 1 season, M’Vila said about his future: “For as long as I am at Rennes, I will be available to the manager.

“I’m not going to get too hung up about it. I could even very well stay for another season.”

Laurent Blanc had intended to build his France team at Euro 2012 around M’Vila, but that plan was ruined when the midfielder was injured during the final warm-up match against Serbia.

Rennes had hoped to generate up to £24million for M’Vila but have reduced that aspiration to closer to £16million as interest in him has dropped away.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger had considered making a bid for the midfielder who played 54 games for club and country last season, but was deterred by his reputation for off-field difficulties.

Tottenham are now odds-on at 4/5 with bookmaker Sky Bet to sign M’Vila before the transfer window closes on August 31, with Arsenal 6/5 and Manchester United 12/1.
