Tottenham Hotspur v Blackburn Rovers tips - Spurs to get back on track

Harry Redknapp will hope his Tottenham side's form will improve when they play Blackburn (credit: (Getty Images))

Tottenham can keep themselves in the hunt for Champions League qualification by pushing Blackburn closer to the relegation trapdoor.

A best-priced 1/5 with Betfred to go down, Rovers are three points from safety with three games remaining and will at least have a better idea about their chances of avoiding the drop by the time this game kicks off at 16:00 BST on Sunday.

And Steve Kean’s side may not be as daunted by the trip to White Hart Lane as they might have been earlier this season, for Spurs’ form has nosedived over the last couple of months.

Ever since Harry Redknapp became the strong favourite to lead England to Euro 2012 after Fabio Capello resigned as national team manager – or won his court case against tax evasion charges on the same day, whichever you prefer – Tottenham have played more like relegation candidates than title contenders, which they had been previously.

Since the 5-0 hammering of Newcastle on February 11, Spurs have won only one of their nine league games and also been thrashed 5-1 by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals for good measure.

Yet, despite losing 1-0 to another relegation-threatened team, QPR, who had been reduced to 10 men last weekend, Tottenham are still the 2/5 favourites (Paddy Power) for this game.

They can at least point to their excellent recent record against Blackburn having won all the last five meetings between the clubs, the last two at White Hart Lane by a comfortable two-goal margin.

Blackburn kept alive their survival hopes with a 2-0 win at Norwich last week that ended a run of five consecutive defeats and they will need Junior Hoilett to sparkle again if they are to make an impact in this game.

The Canadian winger has been Blackburn’s brightest performer this term and is 7/2 (Bet365) to find the net here.

However, Blackburn tend to be a much more formidable proposition at Ewood Park than on their travels and you fear that, even though they have a critical home game against Wigan to come, their fate may be sealed at White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge on the last day of the season.

The 21/5 (BetVictor) about a draw is sure to attract some punters who cannot decide which of these current form strugglers to back, with Blackburn the 8/1 outsiders (BetVictor).

But despite their recent travails, Tottenham should still be too strong and can sustain their dwindling hopes of finishing in the top four.

Recommendation

Winning Margin – Tottenham to win by 1 goal (29/10 BetVictor)
