Terry Baker: U's can weather the storm

Cambridge United director Terry Baker has backed manager Jez George to steer the U's through a potentially jam-packed schedule of fixtures.

The recent cold snap has seen a number of fixtures postponed, meaning a number of rescheduled matches will now be played in midweek.

And with cup matches also falling foul of the weather, many Blue Square Bet Premier clubs are facing a busy few months.

Baker told Cambridge News: "The last thing we want is a backlog of fixtures with three or four games to fit in.

"That could put too much pressure on the squad. But it's the same for everyone.

"You've got to manage your resources and I'm sure Jez will do just that and be on top of the situation.

"It's easier to fit fixtures in this season as we passed the halfway stage of the season at Christmas, with no games being postponed for bad weather before then.

"We're a full-time squad, so we can get indoors to train - in the gym or a swimming pool for example - so we should have things okay from that point of view.

"Having games off at the moment also means people coming back from injuries can get fitter."
