Stoke City v Everton FC tips – Toffees to find it stickier at Stoke

David Moyes' Everton side may have to settle for a draw away to Stoke City (credit: (Getty Images))
Stoke can curb the threat of free-scoring Everton by holding the in-form visitors to a draw at the Britannia Stadium.

Match odds
Stoke – 9/5 (BetVictor)
Draw – 23/10 (Coral)
Everton – 7/4 (William Hill)

The Toffees have scored four goals in each of their last three Premier League games, crushing Sunderland and Fulham at Goodison Park and fighting back from 4-2 down to draw with champions Manchester United.

Since they lost 2-0 at Tottenham on January 11, Everton have only been beaten by neighbours Liverpool and Arsenal in the league – prompting manager David Moyes to claim his side have been England’s best in 2012.

That may be pushing things a little, but there is no doubt Everton have been particularly impressive this time in staging their perennial new year surge up the table to seventh place.

The signing of Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic in January was inspired and he has weighed in with nine goals in his last seven games.

Jelavic’s partnership with Marouane Fellaini playing just off him is unorthodox, but it works and defences have been struggling to contain the duo physically.

However, that should be less of a problem for Stoke, whose game is all about strength and height especially with Ryan Shawcross and Robert Huth in the heart of defence.

The Potters had been giving the impression of a team mentally on the beach for the last few weeks, but they dispelled that notion with a plucky performance to hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Tony Pulis is certainly not the sort of manager who would allow his players to slacken off and he will have them ‘up’ for the challenge of facing a bang in-form side.

There are not usually many goals when these sides meet. But both could find the net on this occasion and with little to choose between them according to the odds, and therefore not a huge amount of value, a score draw looks the most likely outcome.

Recommendation

Win market – Draw (23/10 Coral)
