Rennes v Celtic tips - Hoops set for more away misery

Neil Lennon is struggling at Celtic this season

Rennes v Celtic tips from Bettingpro tipsters. Celtic look set for more European disappointment when they face Rennes in the Stade Route de Lorient on Thursday evening.

Celtic travel to France in need of a win against Rennes to give them a chance of making it out of Europa League Group I. The Hoops have, however, managed to win just one match in their last 31 away from home in Europe and they have looked less like winning than ever in recent matches.

Neil Lennon's side conceded a penalty and had Daniel Majstorovic sent off in the first minute of their 3-1 defeat to FC Sion in qualifying for this season's Europa League and then allowed Falcao to score after just two minutes when they played Atletico Madrid in the Vicente Calderon. In their Europa League qualifier the previous season the Hoops were 2-0 down after 20-minutes, thanks to two penalties gifted to their opponents.

This is, frankly, pathetic and serious questions have to be asked of a team with such poor discipline when leaving the comfort of their home stadium. Quite how nothing can be learned by the same set of players from the same mistakes is baffling. William Hill offer 23/10 that there is a goal in the opening 15-minutes on Thursday and, statistically, that bet is fantastic value.

Nonetheless, Lennon will profess that he believes that Celtic have changed but anyone who watched Saturday's 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park would disagree. The Glasgow side were 3-0 down to a team in the lower regions of the SPL table by half-time and while, admittedly, they came back and drew 3-3, it was simply another example of complete defensive ineptitude from the visitors.

The Rennes strikers Jires Ekoko, who opened the scoring against Lorient on Sunday and is 8/1 at Sky Bet to do the same on Thursday, and Victor Hugo Montano (11/2, Victor Chandler) will be gleefully awaiting the chance to boost their goal tally's for the season and it is difficult to bet against them doing so.

The hosts are 8/11, at Boylesports, to beat the Scottish side in the Stade Route de Lorient and that is a very good price. Rennes may not yet have won in this season's Europa League group stage but they drew against Atletico Madrid in their last home match and are unbeaten in Ligue 1 when playing in front of their own fans.

Celtic, by contrast, are struggling in the SPL and are already ten points behind bitter rivals Rangers. Lennon's claim after Saturday's match that "I'll turn it round. We will turn it round," sounded more like a man desperate to keep his job than one who believed he had any answers. It is 22/5 at Victor Chandler that his side win in France on Thursday or 11/4, with the same firm, that Celtic draw with Rennes but it looks like yet another away defeat for the Hoops.

Recommendation

Win Market - Rennes (8/11, Boylesports)
