Selfish Mario Balotelli ‘deserves lots of slaps’ according to Paolo Di Canio

KIEV, UKRAINE - JULY 01: Mario Balotelli of Italy shows his dejection after their defeat during the UEFA EURO 2012 final match between Spain and Italy at the Olympic Stadium on July 1, 2012 in Kiev, Ukraine. (credit: Shaun Botterill/Getty Images)
Mario Balotelli was in the Euro 2012 team of the tournament although Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio is not a fan of his compatriot

Mario Balotelli scored three goals for Italy at Euro 2012 which helped the Azzurri reached the final and the Manchester City striker’s brace against Germany was pretty breathtaking, although not everyone is a fan of the 21-year-old.

Paolo Di Canio has described his compatriot as a selfish player who looks like he’s waiting to celebrate rather than become part of the team. The Swindon manager has claimed that Antonio Cassano was more pivotal in helping the team go all the way to the final.

"Balotelli is just selfish. He deserves a lot of slaps," Swindon boss Di Canio is quoted as saying in the Sun.

"Against Germany he did two good things but in the end I saw a player who was just waiting to celebrate.

"Balotelli does not play for the team, only for himself. He is an egotist, who thinks the world revolves around him.

"Guys like Balotelli deserve lots of slaps rather than pats on the shoulder. Antonio Cassano led the team to the final."

Di Canio is known for being strongly opinionated although he has started his managerial career by steering Swindon Town to promotion from League Two.
