Rangers closing in on domestic treble
Rangers v Dundee United is being streamed live online for free at BWIN today
Rangers are already in the CIS Cup final, and have more or less won the SPL, so the only trophy left to complete the domestic treble is the Scottish FA Cup. Standing in between the Gers, and a semi-final spot, are the in-form Dundee United, although the Tangerines will have their work cut out at Ibrox on Sunday.
Walter Smith has been back in charge of Rangers for three years, and it is believed that during this time it is his assistant manager Ally McCoist who is in charge of team affairs for all cup matches. In the two full seasons since the duo’s return, Rangers have won the Scottish Cup twice, and the CIS Cup once, and have, incredibly, only been defeated once in domestic knock-out competition, losing to Celtic in last year’s CIS Cup final.
It is, therefore, safe to assume that Rangers will beat Dundee United at Ibrox on Sunday. They are 4/11 (StanJames) to do so, and with Kris Boyd (10/3, Coral) and Kenny Miller (4/1, Coral) irrepressible in the SPL this season, they should be able to do so.
Boyd in particular loves playing United. The last time Rangers faced the Tangerines, Boyd scored an incredible five times, in a seven-one win. The SPL’s top-scorer might not manage another five, but he should be able to find the net at least once, and 5/6 (Boylesports) that he does is definitely a more appealing bet than the straight Rangers win, at short odds.
In their last ten matches, Rangers have conceded just two goals, and odds against (5/4, PaddyPower) that they win to nil is, therefore, a little on the generous side. A two-nil (6/1, Bwin) home win looks the game’s most likely final score, although if you fancy opposing the Gers, you can get odds of 10/1 (Ladbrokes) that Dundee United spring a Sunday morning surprise.
