Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez reveals that he may have to speak to the club's owners in order to get more transfer funds to improve his squad.

Benitez has brought in Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani while selling Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and Sebastien Leto.

Benitez is now hoping to sign a defender after Sami Hyypia left the club on a free transfer at the end of last season and has targeted Hull City's Michael Turner.

The Liverpool boss concedes that he has not been given the money to compete with other clubs, and may have to discuss the situation with the club's American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

"We are working hard with the players we have and the money we have," said Benitez.

"It is always difficult to compete in the Premier League with clubs who have more money. continued Benitez.

"We had some money, but I will not talk about figures. It is something I have to talk with the club about." added Benitez.
