Premiership Relegation odds update

- 22 Feb 2009

Middlesbrough are the new favourites to finish the season in the dreaded 18th spot, bookmakers price boro at 11/8 (Skybet) to be playing Championship football next season.

The facts are hard to face for Middlesborough fans, 14 games without a win in the league is certainly relegation form. Middlesborough are also the lowest scoring team in not only the Premiership but the top four English football leagues, having not scored in 5 games.
Southgate is currently 5/4 to be the next manager to get sacked with William Hill, that’d be great value for punters were it not for Joe Kinnear’s well documented recent health trouble.

Having already suffered heart problems earlier in his career, Joe Kinnear may well jump before Southgate can be pushed. Newcastle themselves are still far from relegation safety, the toon army face 7/2 to be relegated (Victor Chandler) though good recent results such as the 3-2 victory over West Brom and a 0-0 draw with Everton should provide the platform to survival.

West Brom remain the out and out favourites to get relegated and with odds of 2/7 from Coral it looks like any hope of a revival are very slim. Should it come to the final day of the season to decide, then a fixture against fellow strugglers Blackburn could be crucial. Blackburn currently occupy the 18th spot and are 4/1 with Sportingbet to be relegated.
