Scholes, came off the bench in United’s 3-2 win over neighbours Manchester City in this afternoon’s FA Cup 3rd round tie at The Etihad Stadium, after agreeing a deal at Old Trafford until the end of the season. Scholes, 37, retired from international football in August 2004 after winning 66 England caps, but a return to form could put him back in the frame with current manager Fabio Capello. Sky Bet’s Joe Petyt told Bettingpro: “It was a surprise to see Scholes back in the Man Utd squad today and his recall hints of a bit of desperation from Sir Alex Ferguson to improve his lacklustre midfield. “He’s obviously not going to play in every game in the second half of the season but he could still prove very influential against some of the lesser sides in the run-in.
