A second-string Arsenal side were beaten 3-1 at Olympiakos on Tuesday night, but their place in the Champions League last-16 was already assured.

The Gunners had wrapped up top spot in Group F after five rounds of fixtures and that allowed manager Arsene Wenger the opportunity to rest some of his star names for the trip to Greece. Olympiakos, on the other hand, knew they needed to win and hope Borussia Dortmund did them a favour by not losing to Marseiile on matchday six.

The Greek side made the ideal start by going in front after 16 minutes when a mix-up between Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci allowed Rafik Djebbour the opportunity to round Lukasz Fabianski and slot home the opener. Not only were Olympiakos supporters cheering, so were punters who took advantage of Betfred’s Top Industry Price offer on Djebbour scoring first.

Arsenal suffered a setback when goalkeeper Fabianski was forced off with injury on 25 minutes, and 11 minutes later substitute Vito Mannone found himself picking the ball out of the net after his blunder while attempting clear gifted a goal to David Fuster.
The visitors were then dealt another injury blow as Andre Santos went off, but they gave themselves hope just before the hour mark when Marouane Chamakh chested the ball down for Yossi Benayoun to finish smartly.

However, Francois Modesto wrapped up the victory for Olympiakos with a minute remaining, only for joy to turn to despair when news came through that Marseille had struck twice late on to win 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund, putting them in the knockout stage alongside Arsenal.
